- A 320 × 240 px photo upscaled ×4 to 1280 × 960 px in 5 seconds. (19-09-2026)
- With 0.3 to 1 megapixel photos, ×4 took 6 to 9 seconds; with face enhancement on, about 17 seconds. (03-09-2026)
Measured on airpic.app with the GPU already running. If nobody has used it for a while, the first job takes 40 to 90 seconds longer to start.
Frequently asked questions
Is it real upscaling or just stretching?
It's new AI-generated resolution (Real-ESRGAN x4plus): the model rebuilds textures and edges classic resizing can't invent.
What's the difference between ×4, ×8, ×16 and Max?
×4 is a single direct AI pass: it takes seconds and is plenty for web and regular print sizes. ×8 and ×16 run two passes over a ~250-cell mosaic, built for large format. Max computes the biggest size that fits in 600 MP for your photo.
Extreme sharpness or painterly fill?
Sharpness uses the photo model (macro-like detail). Painterly uses the illustration model: flat brush-like fill, great for posters, drawings and art.
What's the maximum size?
Up to 37.5 MP input and 600 MP output. Up to 32 MP output the file is PNG; above that, top-quality JPEG (92) so it stays manageable.
How long does it take?
×4 takes a few seconds. A big ×16 can take several minutes: the bar shows progress and an ETA.
Can I enhance faces while upscaling?
Yes: tick “enhance faces” and GFPGAN rebuilds eyes, skin and hair of every detected face after upscaling. There is also ×2 for photos that only need a bit more resolution, and you can choose the output format (PNG, JPG or WebP).
Do you keep my photos?
No. Processed and deleted: 1 hour after download, 24 h hard cap. No copies, no thumbnails.

How do I know if my photo is big enough to print large?
Enter the width and height of the print in centimetres and the viewing distance: we show the resulting ppi and recommend the smallest factor that gets there. To check before uploading anything, use the DPI calculator.
Can I upscale iPhone photos in HEIC?
Yes. It accepts JPG, PNG (with alpha and 16-bit), WebP, TIFF, HEIC and AVIF, applies the EXIF orientation and keeps the ICC colour profile. On your phone, just pick the photo from your gallery as on any website.
